I wouldn't do any of those things 3x a week at 8-10 rep levels.. and 5x a week if you were just gonig through the motions at 50% weight just to stay warmed up, so you don't see drops from too much rest. I was always also making sure I had the best form possible because I was told of isntances where people who were really great athletes got injured on one rep from one small shift in their form.. so that's why I always kept the reps higher. I think more tears and injuries occur at lower reps.. but if you do higher reps and compensate for lack of bulk, if you keep working out with shorter breaks and more frequency you will havy a lot of tightness and tearing also.. just not muscle tears.. maybe tendon tears.
How good of an athlete do I think I am?
I can punt about 45 yards straight consistently with about 3.8 sec hang time.. If I get the practice and the stretching I could get that better. I would probably be a back up punter on maybe Division 2 maybe division 1 third string.. this isn't something that is my forte so I just go with it, because it's fun and a great work out.
For basketball.. this is my best sport, but I would get dominated at a higher level if I played a forward position because of my height. I practice jump shots only.. usually perimeter or outside the arc, but I've been incorporating driving to the basket. I try to elevate about 3" on every attempt and have a short quick release where my arms are also at the highest point (If I played at a higher level any attempt inside the arc would require that so I wouldn't get blocked on an open jumper.. steve Nash like but more jump). So I try to practice like a guard.. and I've also practice my dribbling mechanics, but I still don't have the confidence in my guard play. I always get sort of forced into a forward role, but I am very stubborn about preventing any post play, or sizing up, because I realize how dominated I would get at a higher level, so I try to prove myself as a guard.. somewhat successfully.. but my defense is definitely very good, and I can guard forwards/ centers 6'2 - guards sub 6'0.
Basically my goal with basketball would be to have an opportunity to play at some level maybe professionally in Europe (at a lower division 2 or 3, not the best and in a couple years).. very plausible.. this is more of a cultural and economic barrier than a skill/ athletic barrier. I can definitely get my body at that level in a year maybe 2 years. I will be dunking sub 12 months with power/authority, because I'm doing more leg press heavy work.
Soccer: This is a huge wild card.. I wouldn't be able to play at any level. This is just something fun, but I'd be a decent goal keeper maybe, because I can get a lot of leg on the ball off the ground and punting.. and I have the spring to react from left to right corner to corner.
Legs:
1) stationary bike.. seeing as this is so effective for my dad, who is doing mountain bike races/ marathons, and has very big quad muscles.. I realized that this is an effective alternative to leg press, and minimal on joint stress.
2) elliptical
3) lunges
4) standing 40lb mulch (yes mulch) bag presses, from on the ground squat and lift, like a free- dead lift.
5) leg press/ leg extensions 10 reps heavy, only once a week
6) power walking (everyday)/ running, jogging
7) Using bodylastics orange band with strap attachment, free motion leg workouts.
8) basketball: just practicing and making sure to get elevation on every attempt, the same amount everytime.. after 1 hour non stop, you get a workout
Abs/lower back:
Back extension machine/ abs machine from laying position ab crunch
bicycle crunches
planks
bodylastics bring it across your body
*** Also I really want to try to run a 40 dash.. I think I can sub 5.0 seconds, just haven't gotten around to doing it.
AND for a 1 mile time I think I could sub 6 minutes.. I ran sub 7 in high school with no training.
